What was your first car? - elgin eagle - 07-06-2019

Mine was a mk1 ford escort that was actually more p38 filler than car.  I paid £250 for it.  Should have kept the fucker in hindsight.  I never had any official driving lessons but instead my mates who had recently passed used to sit in the passenger seat while I scared them with my death motor and non existent driving skills.  On the morning of my test the fucking engine seized up so I had to take my dad's vw passat estate to the test centre.  I think the woman examiner felt sorry for me as I eventually completed the 7 point turn in it and passed me.  Perhaps she just wanted to get out of the car alive, who can say.

Anyway, Ford Escort mk1, red/filler.  Can't remember the full registration but it ended 564H.

Austin A40.  Bought for £50 sold for £75.

It had those indicators that flipped out from the side.  Big Grin

In the winter the doors would freeze shut so I climbed in through the boot.   Angel

Only one girl thought it was funny.  She is now my wife of 40 years!!  Heart

And it had a starting handle as well!!!!

I can't remember my 'handle'. I was a spotty 17 year old, so it was probably something like Stud Muffin  Smile

And wasn't it 'one four for a copy' (spoken in a yank accent) ?  Smile

RE: What Was Your First Car? - The Groover - 07-06-2019

My 4th car was a vauxhall viva.  Powder blue.

Not in the mean streets of Thetford it wasn't.  If you said 'one four for a copy' round there an ambulance turned up Big Grin i think my handle was 'tipper' due to some unproven rumours about me stealing stuff from recycling centres and selling it.

What was a Corona?  It sounds like a drink.

My best pal had a cb radio that he rigged a speaker onto. We used to drive past bus stops announcing the bus had been cancelled .

RE: What Was Your First Car? - The Groover - 08-06-2019

My first car was pre-registration letters!!!!!

RE: What Was Your First Car? - HonorOakBloke - 09-06-2019

Austin 1800 bought for less than a hundred quid. More filler than metal, and the (dash-mounted) handbrake lever regularly fell off - but I felt like I was King of the Road at the time...

My mate had a scrap yard.  He used to get cars coming in with a month or two of mot left on them that wouldn't pass another one and give them to me to thrash about in.  One day I had this Mitsubishi colt with really dodgy tyres.  I lost control of it on a bend and it crashed through a garden wall and came to rest in the wall of a house.  It definitely needed the scrap yard after that.

RE: What Was Your First Car? - Nick from Red And Blue News - 10-06-2019

Ah this is my kind of thread.

My first four cars were all Mk 2 Cortina’s. The first one I bought from Horley car auctions. Turned left onto the main road outside the auction and it broke down.

My 2nd had been poorly Magged (I think they called it) up. Massive wheels on the back that would rub on the hubs as you cornered. And some dodgy air horns.

My 3rd had a bit of a rust issue, so much so the the near side front wing had a big hole in it. Ideal for the plant pot and plant I use to drive around in it. HAPPY DAYS

Bright yellow Vauxhall Viva.

This isn't the actual one, just to give you an idea.
