Hello, I Must Be Going.

I'm afraid I have to say to you all that I am withdrawing from contributing on this forum from 00:01 on 1st November.

I don't like self-serving posts that people make announcing their intentions to leave forums so making this post sticks in my own throat somewhat however I felt I should make it to avoid any rumour or conjecture as to why I am not posting here any more.

Things are complicated slightly because I helped put this forum together. Usually if you frequent a site and you no longer wish to contribute you simply stop visiting the site. It isn't that straightforward if you are connected to it. I have received a lot of stick for being involved with this site from certain sections of the Palace community on Twitter and Facebook and even led me to being banned by another forum when this one opened. The hounding, negativity and abuse even led me to closing my own Palace related site.

When I originally agreed to help create this forum I had a specific concept in mind but unfortunately the forum has shifted away from that concept. This has led me to become apathetic and not particularly bothered about evolving it, publicising it or driving it on.

That aside, the main issue I have is that this was supposed to be a forum for Crystal Palace discussion with maybe some politics and other bits on the side. It has turned out to be a politics forum with some Crystal Palace discussion on the side.

The numbers speak for themself. The Politics thread has 69 threads and 4830 posts whereas the general Palace thread has 65 threads and 967 posts. If that's what the members want to talk about, that's fine but that isn't something I want to partake in any longer.

I know I have contributed to the political discussions and the main reason is that is I was (kind of) forced to read the threads as part of administering the site. I am someone who needs to reply and justify my reasons if I think something is wrong. I have not taken part in any political discussions on the other Palace forums. I avoided the threads because I think it is a futile exercise to discuss politics because views are so entrenched.

This only serves to frustrate and turn people against each other when this was supposed to be a forum to bring fans together.

At the end of the day I like the users of this forum, I can't think of anyone I have anything against no matter your political views. The problem is I know if I continue to contribute here there is a chance that may change especially in light of the impending general election. Therefore I think it is best to quit while on good terms rather than develop the kind of resentment that some of you seem to have towards each other.

I am not going to throw anyone under the bus but some of you make good counter arguments, some make nonsensical counter arguments and some just regurgitate rubbish they have heard/read without substance. Which ever category you think you fall in to I genuinely wish you all the best!  Shy

And just to piss you all off, may I be the first to wish you all a Merry Christmas! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Maybe rejig the appearance? Move Palace discussion on top and other chit chat and politics bottom of the page?

When I log in I see other stuff first and then I scroll down to palace etc...

Would be sad to see you go as you are a top bloke and I also liked your other website. People abusing you on Facebook or twitter are morons

Sad

In fairness, there is only so much to talk about regarding Palace or football in general. Politics is just a wider topic for debate.
It is a pity you are ceasing your contribution, as I thought you might be able to inject some more balance into the site.

Good luck for the future.

Sad to read Graham.  Always be eternally grateful to you for setting it up for us though.  Can't dictate what people want to talk about I guess.  I would prefer more palace discussion myself as you know.  Anyway, pm me who has threatened you, I might be able to do something about that. Seems a bit scummish really.

It's the usual suspects who have been doing it since April. I just can't be arsed any more.

I don't know you from Adam but most people I've met through following Palace are the type whose throats I'd happily slit, so maybe that's for the best. If people are giving you a hard time, try listening to that little voice inside you, the one speculating about what the fuckers' lungs might look like as wall hangings.

Me too.  They kind of win that way, don't they.

When I got banned from the bbs I tried to find out which c*nts were driving it.  Then after we started this place up it transpired that the same exact c*nts were the driving force behind many other (in my opinion) unjustified permanent bans.  I was on the bbs since just after it opened, I made a lot of friends through it, but a lot of enemies too.  As Arthur says and I agree with him, there are some real fuckwits out there.  Some of them I wouldn't stop punching.  However it's a personal choice and I understand whatever way Graham wants to go as a result.  It's a shame though as someone with an even bigger desire to make this place succeed has offered me 500 quid towards an upgraded service.

It isn't just because of that, the main thing is not wanting to get into political arguments which will make me fall out with people on here because the next few weeks is going to get very messy.

As a point of order it is a psychological fact that people with entrenched views are stupid because they can't/won't listen to reasoned arguments. The people who say "It doesn't matter what you say I won't change my mind!"

Intelligent people are the ones who can listen to an opposing argument, consider it, see the point of view but not necessarily change their mind.

It was a very common misconception that people who bought PPIs (payment protection insurance) were thick or stupid when they were far from it. The sales people used tactics to convince people they needed the PPI by describing scenarios in which they could reasonably believe it would be useful.

However to drag it back down to my level, the pornographer Pierre Woodman was asked in a documentary if the majority of girls who he convinces to do porn in his casting films are stupid. He said absolutely not, the stupid ones were the girls who said no and wouldn't entertain a discussion whereas the intelligent girls could understand a reasoned debate as to why it would be good for their career and self development to do porn.

He is married to a Russian woman who he met at a casting, she did porn for his company Private and they now have kids. So he hardly disregards a girl's welfare and exploits them for money.

But I digress, the is the former who frustrate me whereas the latter you can have a good debate with even if you do not agree. After all, I am a master debater and a good discussion is like a game of tennis. Smile

I figured that, but the political stuff is just a point of view.

People on the internet do my head in with what I think are bonkers beliefs, but friendships and useful associations should transcend ideological differences.
I support Elgin because he is making a stand against wankers and seems like a decent guy, despite his obsession with Russia and his desire to see the country run by a Marxist traitor. Wink
